3 Common Reasons You Can’t Lose Weight

How often have you heard someone, usually a woman, say “No matter what I do, I can’t lose weight!” There are several causes for weight loss resistance. Three of the most common include hormonal imbalances, malabsorption, and toxicity. Let’s look briefly at each of these…

balanceHormonal Imbalances – Typically, everyone is going to start by looking at the thyroid, which isn’t a bad idea, but you have several other hormone-secreting glands and there may be more than one culprit. The adrenal glands play a tag team role with the thyroid and our high-stress, fight-or-flight lifestyle often leads to adrenal fatigue which can create a significant amount of belly fat.  Estrogen dominance is another common cause of weight loss resistance.  We use a comprehensive hormone assessment to get a baseline and track your progress while your hormones come back into balance.

Malabsorption – When your body isn’t doing a good job extracting the vitamins, minerals, and amino acids from your food or supplements, you may be experiencing malabsorption. Many people think this doesn’t apply to them if they are overweight. On the contrary, if your body isn’t getting the nutrients it needs, it thinks you must be starving and starts to hoard calories! Carbohydrates start to be absorbed in your mouth so even if your stomach and intestines aren’t up to par, you’ll get the calories from them.  A gut restoration program may be in order.  Once you start actually being nourished, your body will no longer think there’s a famine and won’t try to hang on to every calorie that goes in your mouth.

Discomfort ScaleToxicity – Most toxins are fat-soluble.  If they were water soluble, you would pee them out.  The body, especially the female body, is quite adept at encasing these toxins in fat to protect you (and a potential fetus) from them.  Cellulite is one way the body does this.  If toxins are the reason for your weight-loss resistance, your body will do everything in its power to hold onto that fat as a means of self-preservation.  If you go into starvation mode (low calorie diets, extreme fasting), your body will then go into survival mode and use the fat for energy.  This creates a problem because you are then mobilizing decades of stored toxins without an exit strategy.  A comprehensive detox program, with the support of a knowledgeable wellness professional, is the best way to handle this.

Your body is brilliant and is always trying to reach a state of balance.  Sometimes it just needs some help doing this.  If you are dealing with one, two, or all three of these reasons for weight-loss-resistance, ask us how we can help.   http://www.NaturallyUnbridled.com/services
